RCMP reminds motorists that if you are involved in a collision where the damage for both vehicles is equal to or over $5,000, the collision must be reported to police.

Drivers must share their first and last name with the other driver as well as their phone number, insurance company, policy number, expiry date, type of vehicle, and licence plate. A statement to the RCMP is also required.

If you are involved in a collision where the damage for both vehicles is under $5,000, both drivers are required to exchange the minimum information as listed above.

With the exchange of information, Red Deer RCMP caution against sharing a photo of your driver’s licence as it leaves you susceptible to fraud.

“Red Deer RCMP remind drivers to be mindful of all roadway users,” RCMP wrote in the release. “Keep an eye out for cyclists and motorcycles on the road. Check your blind spots and leave enough space to react to vehicles and pedestrians around you.”
