Janet May Ellen Swinston, age 64, of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, with her husband Lane, and her niece Karri, at her side.
Born on May 18, 1962 in Eckville, Alberta, to Clarence and Myrtle (Watkins) Swinston. She grew up on her family farm, caring for animals, she got into hospitality and safety while also being a homemaker. A devoted mother, cherished grandmother, loving sister, and loyal friend. She was known for her generous and adventurous spirit, love of life, and who touched all who knew her. She especially loved cooking, baking, horses, motorbikes, crafts, drawing, painting, and singing. She always made time for her kids and family, the first to head out to live jams and karaoke, or a spontaneous road trip. Married to Lane, together they shared 25 years before separating and continuing to be best friends.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: her daughters, Fallon Moos and Felicia Moos; her husband, Lane Moos; her beloved granddaughter, Sage Moos; her siblings, Jim Swinston, Melvin Swinston (Vicki), Penny Marin, Cassy Porat, Bradley Swinston (Michelle), Robert McLaughlin, Robert Pederson, and Kim Forsberg; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Myrtle Swinston; brother-in-law Gary Marin McDougall; and her beloved son, Dion, whom she now joins in eternal rest.
A graveside service will be held on August 22, 2026 at 11:00am at Hespero Cemetery where Janet will be laid to rest beside her beloved son, Dion. A Wake will be later that day in Red Deer, Alberta, location to be announced on Facebook.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, or the Red Deer Hospice Society in her memory.
Her laughter, creativity, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
