Louise “Lou” F.P. Irving passed away peacefully at Red Deer Hospice on June 21, 2026 at the age of 88 years.

Lou was born to Oscar and Eva Tremblay in 1938, the third child following her brother JJ and sister Raymonde. After the birth of Lou, her dad settled the family in Lac La Biche, Alberta. When Lou was two years old, she lost her mother following the birth of her younger sister Joanne.  This was a defining time for her as her father went to serve in the second world war.

Lou and her older sister were sent to be raised by nuns at the Lac La Biche Mission.  The two girls were inseparable as they leaned on each other for support. They were almost like twins and always together, being best friends forever.

After the war, their family could not always be together, but they were always able to be with their father for the holidays. Lou returned home to finish high school with her family finally together.

Following high school, Lou met Victor Irving, a young RCMP constable who was stationed in Lac La Biche.  They married in 1957 in Edmonton, where Louise had been living with Joanne and her family. In 1963 Victor was transferred to Fort Chipewyan, a very isolate community.

Lou used her resources and adapted to her new life in stride.  She ordered groceries for a year ahead, she learned to cut Victor’s hair, bake bread and even had to supply meals to the prisoners.

Over the years they lived in Fort Chipewyan, Edmonton, Red Deer, Vancouver, Frobisher Bay and Ottawa before moving to Yellowknife. Through most of those moves, Lou was able to pursue and complete an Honor History Degree. She enjoyed work at a northern magazine publication called “UP Here”.

While in Yellowknife she travelled to remote northern communities in the Arctic where she took on the census for the Federal Government.  Lou was a special Aunt to a host of nieces and nephews.  She made sure to be a part of every special occasion, every wedding, major birthdays and anniversaries.

In 1986 Lou and Victor returned to False Creek, Vancouver, their favourite place.  There she retired and hosted many friends.  She loved to entertain and she did it very well.  She also enjoyed hosting numerous friends at their winter home in Arizona where they were able to have extended time with Goria, Vic’s sister, as well as Harry and Jean and many others.

After Victor’s passing in 2023, Lou was able to return to Alberta to be near family, as she had always planned.  She resided in Inglewood, a very nice care home in Red Deer, where she was cared for by a kind, wonderful staff and visited by family almost daily.  There, Lou’s days were filled with meaning and love.

Her family will always treasure the many visits and all the time spent with Lou – these are memories we will not forget!  With her sharp wit and amazing sense of humour, Lou gave us all so many reasons to smile. Well done Lou!

Lou is survived by sisters Raymonde (John) Tesolin & Joanne Haugen as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Victor; parents Oscar & Eva Tremblay, and her brother JJ.

A Funeral Service will be held at the RCMP Depot 5600 – 11th Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 1:00 pm.
