Mrs. Donna Kathleen Bergquist (née Hodgkinson) passed away at Bethany CollegeSide, Red Deer, Alberta, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the age of 82 years. Donna was born on December 16, 1944, in Chilliwack, British Columbia. She was raised on the farm East of Pine Lake, Alberta. This is where she met Phil, who she married on November 20, 1965. Donna attended Delburne High School, and afterwards worked at the Michener Centre, Woodwards, and then became a food demonstrator at many local grocery stores. She was an avid volunteer at the Red Deer Food Bank for twenty-nine years, and often donated blood at the Canadian Blood Services. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, gardening, garage-saling, travelling, and was a farm girl extraordinaire. Donna passed away peacefully with Phil by her side. The family would like to extend a special thank you to West Park Lodge, Bethany Sylvan Lake, Bethany CollegeSide, the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, and all their supportive staff for Donna’s care throughout her six year battle with vascular dementia.
Donna is lovingly remembered by her husband, Philip Bergquist; two sons, Dwayne (Susan) Bergquist, and Mark (Tracy) Bergquist; four grandchildren, Amber Bergquist, Carla (Kayden) Bergquist, Garret (Sarah) Hauck, and Gavin Hauck; two great-grandchildren, Weston and Archie; and many dear friends and relatives. Donna rejoins her parents, Kay and Don Hodgkinson; parents-in-law, Lulu and Edward Bergquist; sister-in-law, Kay Gagyi; and cousin, Lorraine Kripple.
A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date. If desired, Memorial Donations in honour of Donna may be sent to the Red Deer Food Bank Society at https://www.reddeerfoodbank.com/, or the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories at https://alzheimer.ca/ab/en.
