The hunt technically begins in Rimbey at PasKaPoo Park Historical Village, and you can pick up the required brochure at the Smithson International Truck Museum in town.

The entire run contains 26 barn quilts at six locations, with plans to add more next year.

“The scavenger hunt was created to help raise a little money for our Heritage Village here in PasKaPoo Park,” Rangen adds.

“This facility is an amazing collection of original shops, church, school, homes. and more. The foresight of this community not to destroy their history, but to preserve and relocate it into this park is incredible to see. It’s a real treasure for the Rimbey community.”

Rangen also explained some of the meaning behind the designs.

“The barn quilts we have painted for this trail are both traditional quilt patterns as well as some unique designs, including a very detailed one that tells the story of the Underground Railroad and how quilt blocks were used to safely guide north those who were fleeing slavery,” she said.

“There is also a tribute piece to the Calkins family, as the old Calkins School on Lockhart Road has a number of these barn quilts displayed on it.”
