God’s Creative Hand

Jul 3, 2026 | 8:54 AM

We believe in a Creator God.

As is written in Genesis 1: 1-3 in the creation account:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light” and there was light..”

The next 5 days of creation brought the heavens and the earth, land and seas, the stars in the sky, animals, livestock, men and women all at the command and utterance of God.

He would speak and it would be so. He spoke life into His creation and there was life and a command to multiply and be fruitful, and at the end of the 6th day, he declared it good then rested on the 7th.

We were also made to be creative beings. Within each and every one of is the ability to create and build.

Some are master builders and they design, plan and construct homes, office buildings, retail spaces and public spaces all with the blessing of God. In times past, scripture would be carved into cornerstones to make people aware of His hand. The Parliament buildings in Ottawa have scripture engraved into the very stones as a reminder of His grace. Some buildings are graced by ornate statues and decorations reflecting divine nature.

Today, we see the bible everywhere because it is a written, published work yet millennia of writers, minstrels and historians have used divine spark to create and record our collective history. We are creative because he gave us the gifting to be so.

The world of Christian literature has a profound influence on modern day writers. Consider men like C. S. Lewis and his beloved Narnia series, or J.R.R. Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings and even Pilgrims Progress.

Our story as humankind is the story of God in our lives and we can read fiction inspired by, non-fiction examining Gods truth and even watch films based on the Bible and biblical saints created by faithful, inspired writers, actors, directors and production teams. Kevin Sorbo, Mel Gibson and the Kendricks come to mind yet in the Golden age of Hollywood, Cecille B Mille and others produced the 10 Commandments, Ben Hur and ‘The Robe’ to inspire.

Early artists took to canvas and marble to show their devotion to God. Today we still marvel at the incredible beauty they left behind. Renaissance artists created ‘The Last Supper,’ (Da Vinci), “The Creation of Adam,’(Michelangelo), ‘The Return of the Prodigal Son-Rembrandt,’ ‘The Lamb of God-Jan Van Eyck,’ and the ‘Storm on the Sea’ by Rembrandt.

The world of music allows avenues for artistic adoration. Classical composers and hymn writers are joined by todays’ musicians in heavenly praise.

How sweet the sound, the sights and words that give praise to our God.

Amen.
