Karyn Elizabeth Dornan passed away peacefully in Red Deer, Alberta, surrounded by the love of her family and those closest to her, on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the age of 57 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Jordan; her daughter, Amanda; and her son-in-law, Mackenzie. Karyn will also be deeply missed by her father, Lawrence; her brother, Neil; her sister-in-law, Crystal; and the many family members and friends she cherished throughout her life. She was predeceased by her mother, Patricia. Karyn faced her cancer journey with remarkable strength, resilience, and determination. Even through life’s most difficult challenges, she continued to share her warmth, humour, and love with those around her, supported every step of the way by her family and friends. Nothing brought Karyn greater joy than spending time with the people she loved, including her family, friends, and her community. She treasured visits with her father at Brooks Lodge and the friendships she formed with the residents there. She also developed a special connection to a ranch in Manitoba and the wonderful family who welcomed her into their lives. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her children in Red Deer, who remain deeply grateful for every visit, conversation, and weekend they shared together. A Service will be held at a later date with details to be announced by the family. Karyn’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for the compassionate and dignified care they provided throughout her illness. The family is also deeply thankful for the kindness, support, and love shown by relatives, friends, and community members during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Karyn’s honour may be made to The Terry Fox Foundation on Karyn’s page at https://run.terryfox.ca/team/karynscrusaders . This organization held special meaning for Karyn and her family, who proudly participated in and fundraised for the Terry Fox Run for many years. An even greater tribute would be to join her team, “Karyn’s Crusaders,” and by participating in this year’s event and fundraising to support the ongoing fight against cancer in honour of Karyn and all those whose lives have been touched by this disease. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
