Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Red Deer and surrounding area

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Red Deer and the surrounding area.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

These thunderstorms may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Officials say to be prepared for severe weather, and if threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or interior room.
