In the presence of Godliness

Jun 26, 2026 | 6:02 AM

It is marvelous to be in the presence of Godly men and women.

In 1999, I had the great opportunity to meet Dale Evans, The Queen of the West in Calgary at a Western Culture Event at the Glenbow Museum.

Besides her cult status as the widow of Roy Rogers, the King of the Cowboys and the writer of Happy Trails and best-selling author of magnificent Christian books, there was something else that made the experience very special and one I treasure to this day.

It was not her physical stature.

She was wheelchair bound after a stroke.

It was not her voice, as it had lost its’ timbre and tone in her senior years.

Along with hundreds of people on a Saturday morning, I experienced what heaven just might be like.

Dale had been wheeled out by Cheryl, her daughter into a room to meet and greet fans.

To this day, I am convinced that she was escorted by angels into a throne room ready to glow with the Holy Spirit in order to bless those around her.

When she entered the room, it got quiet and people stood reverently, as if royalty was present, but in a more meaningful way. Royalty is not ‘normal,’ royalty is not unprotected or deeply personal, but the room was filled with so much joy, appreciation and love nothing else would make sense.

Dale was human, she had lost a daughter, Robin and son, Sandy to alcohol poisoning yet she lived her faith so deeply she took her pain and turned it into praise and her stardom transformed her into ‘Mom,’ to millions and encourager to generations worldwide.

Her godliness hung around her like a veil and as I stood against a wall, a tall man wept as he looked at the woman behind the table.

“She became my mom,” he said. “My mom died when I was young.”

He was not alone, men, women, middle age collectors and kids clutched books and each other. Court was in session, the Queen was going to bless you.

She did as tears flowed, hugs were exchanged and the presence of God touched everyone. That was 27 years ago and I remember that so well.

Today, as a senior saint now, I am aware of the Godly among my friends and I do not worship them, but their faith and devotion to our Lord is a magnet unlike any other.

Can you even imagine what it would have been like to be around Jesus?

Today, we might think of Charlie Kirk, Billy Graham, Franklin Graham and Bill Gather.

It is written in scripture that “Whoever believes in me, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” (John 7:38)

I have been in the presence of celebrity, of scoundrels and saints but my greatest prayer is that I exude Jesus in every way, every day.

Amen,

Tim Lasiuta
