It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Beverly Mae Coene (née Beierbach) on June 2, 2026, at the age of 79 years.

Beverly was born on November 10, 1946, in Innisfail, Alberta, to Frederick (“Fred”) Beierbach and Bertha Baumgardt Beierbach Morris. Although she lived in several communities throughout her life, including Kamloops, Calgary, Edmonton, and Red Deer, Innisfail was always home.

Beverly married Maurice Wayne Coene on November 6, 1965, and together they welcomed two children, daughter Tracey Lea Coene and son D’Arcy Wayne Coene. Though their marriage later ended, Beverly proudly continued to carry the Coene name throughout her life, reflecting the importance of family and the deep connection she shared with her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Beverly was predeceased by her parents, Frederick Beierbach and Bertha Baumgardt Beierbach Morris; her stepfather, Charles Arthur Morris; her brother, Harvey Beierbach; and her beloved infant son, D’Arcy Wayne Coene, who passed away on January 6, 1968.

The loss of D’Arcy was a sorrow Beverly carried throughout her life. Though he was with her for only a short time, he remained forever in her heart. She never forgot him, faithfully remembering him each year on his birthday and the anniversary of his passing. His memory remained an enduring part of her life and a testament to the depth of a mother’s love.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Tracey Lea Coene; her brother, Larry Frederick Beierbach; her grandsons, D’Arcy Charles Arthur Coene, D’Wayne Maurice Coene (Ashley L.), and D’Adrian Robert Coene (Ashley E.); and her six great-grandchildren, D’Ariel Trinity, D’Meika Leigh, D’Aisha Elisabeth May, D’Eklyn Scott, D’Aemyn Charles Fredrick, and Jaden Nworisara Coene.

From a young age, Beverly was known for her sharp mind and ability to hold her own at the card table with the adults. She loved competition and excelled at it. Whether playing whist, cribbage, chess, backgammon, pool, baseball, speed skating, or bingo, Beverly approached every game with enthusiasm, determination, and a quick wit that made her a formidable opponent.

Beverly’s interests extended far beyond cards and games. She loved horseback riding and the outdoors and passed that love on to her family. Some of the family’s favourite memories were made on camping and horseback-riding adventures, including extended stays in hunting tents while exploring the trails with her daughter, Tracey, and later her grandson, D’Arcy.

A creative soul, Beverly loved words, music, and storytelling. She often wrote poetry, filled pages with doodles and notes, and was known within her family for her ability to express thoughts with clarity and precision. When the time came to honour loved ones, she was entrusted with writing the eulogies for both her stepfather and her mother, a reflection of her gift with words and attention to detail.

Music was a lifelong passion. As a young girl, Beverly learned to play the accordion and loved entertaining family and friends. She later continued her musical journey by teaching herself to play the electric organ, often spending hours immersed in the music she loved. Throughout her life she enjoyed sharing music with others, whether at family gatherings, community events, or simply at home. Her musical tastes ranged from country and classic rock to blues, and among her favourites were Janis Joplin’s “Summertime” and the music of Elvis Presley. Even after arthritis limited her ability to play, her love of music never faded.

Fun-loving, intelligent, witty, and blessed with a wonderfully warped sense of humour, Beverly had a personality that drew people to her. Her home was often filled with family and friends for card nights, game nights, and her famous baked spaghetti suppers for “all the kids” — including many of Tracey’s friends, most of whom simply called her Mom. Family and friendship were never limited by blood; if Beverly cared about you, you became part of her extended family.

Beverly remained exceptionally close to her daughter throughout her life. She was by Tracey’s side for the birth of all three grandsons and remained a constant and loving presence in the lives of her daughter and grandchildren. No matter where life took Tracey, Beverly would make the drive for extended visits, and whenever someone needed help, she was usually among the first to offer it.

Later in life, Beverly devoted herself to caring for her mother, Bertha. She faithfully drove Bertha to Red Deer to visit her husband, Art, during his lengthy hospitalization, often making a day of it by attending bingo together afterward. After Art’s passing, the bingo trips continued for many years. As Bertha aged, Beverly gradually assumed more responsibility until she eventually became her mother’s full-time caregiver and companion.

Beverly also loved classic cars, especially Mustangs, and never lost her appreciation for a good ride. In later years she enjoyed spending time with her grandson, D’Adrian, and sharing rides in his 1968 GMC, combining her love of family with her lifelong appreciation of automobiles.

Beverly’s greatest gift was the way she showed up for the people she loved. Whether through a helping hand, a visit, a game of cards, a shared laugh, or simply being present when she was needed most, she built a lifetime of connections that will not be forgotten. Those who knew Beverly best knew that she loved deeply and never forgot the people who touched her life. She carried the memory of family and friends with her always, faithfully remembering them long after they were gone.

A private family graveside interment will be held in Innisfail, Alberta, where Beverly’s ashes will be laid to rest alongside her parents, Bertha and Fred Beierbach, and her stepfather, Charles Arthur Morris, returning her to the place she always considered home.

The family wishes to thank the healthcare professionals, caregivers, friends, and family members who provided support and care throughout Beverly’s life.

Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in the countless memories, stories, laughter, and love she leaves behind.

One of Beverly’s greatest concerns was that the people she loved knew how much they meant to her. She often reminded her family to make sure everyone knew they were loved. In that spirit, we take comfort in knowing that her love lives on in the family and friends she cherished throughout her life.
