Mrs. Heather Key passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Red Deer, Alberta at the age of 81 years, after a lengthy stay in hospitals and assisted living homes. In March of 2024, she suffered a third stroke while still living in her own home and afterwards moved into long term care facilities but sadly continued to lose mobility and cognizance. Heather was born in Edmonton, Alberta on November 27, 1944 and lived on an acreage between the south of Edmonton and Sherwood Park. She graduated from the old rural Salisbury High School in 1961. Heather and Don were married in 1963 and together they lived in Edmonton up until the end of 1965, which was the year their first daughter was born. They moved to Red Deer, Alberta in 1966, where another son and daughter were born. After her three children were established in school, she began to work as a steno for the City of Red Deer around 1976. Heather was a very accomplished and admired employee, and even after retirement she was called back to work part time in various departments. Heather was also very talented in other fields as well. She was very good at sewing and made many clothes for herself and for others in the family. She was also involved in doing crafts, and was active in the Red Deer Quilting Club, where she helped put on a yearly seminar at the colosseum, which drew people in from near and far. After retiring she got very interested in golfing and enjoyed it so much that she went out twice a week or more with the ladies of the Lakewood Golf Resort in Sylvan Lake. While there she became involved in helping to organize the ladies golf club.
Heather will be lovingly remembered by her husband Don, her daughters, Robin (Robert) and Shanyn (Joel), and her son, Brian. She also leaves behind her four grandchildren, Matthew, Jessyca, Julia, and Brianna, and a great grandson, Finley. Heather was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Jean Conn, and her older sister, Diane. The family would like to thank the staff at the Red Deer Hospital Units 32 and 33, the Lacombe Royal Oak Village and the Red Deer Timberstone Mews for their compassionate care. A Memorial Service will be held at the Deer Park Alliance Church, 2960 – 39 Street, Red Deer, Alberta, on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Heather’s honor may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at https://www.heartandstroke.ca/.
