It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen “Kate” Savage at the age of 71. Kate passed away on May 25, 2026 after her lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Born September 4, 1954 in Wolfville, NS, Kate’s family then moved to England a few years later. They returned to Canada in 1963, settling in Toronto, where Kate grew up. Making her way West as a young adult, Kate liked the friendliness of Calgary and thus began her career with the Calgary Police Service (CPS) in 1980, taking on many interesting roles as a constable and retiring in 2006.
Kate was predeceased by her brother David Savage and survived by her sister Dawn Savage, her two children Kenneth (Jen) Savage, and Cassandra (Chase) Langevin, as well as her nephew Anthony Smith, niece Samantha Smith and their families. Kate was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren: Ashton, Hailey, Alex and Hardy.
An adventurous woman, Kate pursued life eagerly and explored crossbow hunting, fishing, barrel racing, sailing and was a sun-seeking traveller. With an entrepreneurial spirit, Kate built and sold homes, completed custom car rebuilding, sold fir trees, and home-grown strawberries & raspberries. While independently raising her two kids, and caring for her fruit farm east of Calgary, she maintained her full-time career with the CPS. After retiring, Kate pursued many interests, eventually returning to Nova Scotia where pickleball became her new passion.
Kate will be remembered for her adventurous and independent spirit, and pursuing her dreams with fierce determination. She was a “boss” and her light-hearted sense of humor and laugh will be missed forever.
Special thanks to the amazing team of health care workers at the Olds long term Continuing Care Home for their dedication to Kate’s care and to Kate’s companion, Yvonne, for her love, compassion and friendship to Kate.
