Mary passed away on Monday June 8, 2026 on unit 32 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital.
Mary was predeceased by her parents and brother Bill. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her husband Richard (Dick); sons Phil (Brenda), Paul (Margaret); daughter Judi (Merv); grandchildren Stephen (Stacey), Ian (Caitlyn), Ross (Catarina), Jeff (Erica), Katie (Jamie) and Michael (Emma); great grandchildren Jordyn, Makenzie, Blayke, Ashtyn and Rhys; her sister in law, Bonnie and brother in law Bill (Jeanne).
Mary was born in Toronto, Ontario, June 2, 1934. She met her future husband, Dick, in “cottage country” north of Toronto. They were married on July 16, 1955 and three children soon followed.
The family moved numerous times as Dick was transferred while his business career developed. By 1979, with their 3 children out of the house, the next transfers were to the United States with stops in Minneapolis, Phoenix and Seattle. Mary and Dick retired in 2005 to Whidbey Island, Washington and spent 17 happy years there.
Time and circumstances led to the decision to move to Red Deer in 2022 to be nearer their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary had a fall in April 2025 which led to care at Michener Extendicare where Mary and Dick would spend many an afternoon playing crib and marvelling at where life together had taken them.
Mary was an avid Duplicate Bridge Player. She achieved Silver Life Master status and was a formidable competitor. She played her last hands with daughter Judi at the Red Deer Bridge Club, Mother’s Day tournament 4 weeks ago.
Mary celebrated her 90th birthday 2 years ago and her 70th wedding anniversary last year. She will be missed by husband Dick, and extended family of 4 generations. Who knew that chance meeting in an Ontario lake would lead to such a tremendous and fulfilling life!
A Celebration of Life for the family, will be held at a later date.
The family is sincerely grateful to the staff at both the Red Deer Regional Hospital and Michener Extendicare for their thoughtful care.
If you wish, a Memorial donation can be made to a charity of your choice.
