Kenneth ‘Ken’ Leischner of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Red Deer Hospice at the age of 79 years. He died as he lived, peacefully. One minute he was in this world and next minute with God. He was born on May 7, 1947, in Olds, Alberta, to Salven and Edith Leischner. Ken was raised on the family farm near Torrington, Alberta. He was a gentle soul with a sharp wit who dearly loved his wife, Olympia and rarely missed an opportunity to spend time with his children, and his grandchildren.
Ken worked as a heavy-duty mechanic for more than thirty years before retiring into a property maintenance role with his son’s company, ‘Soul Investments’. Quiet by nature, he was known for his wisdom when asked and was always ready to help those in need. Outside of work, Ken loved all sports especially hockey and the long autumn evenings bringing in the yearly harvest from the driver’s seat of a combine. He was devoted to his family, community, and faith.
Ken is lovingly remembered by his wife, Olympia Leischner; his son, Dean (Michelle) Leischner, and their children, Jordan and Brayden; and his daughter, Lisa (Mark) Bylsma, and their children, Sarah and Luke. He will also be deeply missed by his younger brother, Brian (Mavis) Leischner, and sister in law, Maureen (Ted Thompson). Ken had close relationships with Olympia’s family, who he is also survived by; Joe Botha, Rachael Botha, Martha (Cal) Carlson, and Selma Botha. He was predeceased by his parents, Salven and Edith Leischner, a baby brother, Ken, and an older brother, Laurence Leischner.Ken’s family extends sincere gratitude to the many family members, friends and health care staff for their kindness, help and support over the past months.
