David Brent Paquette
With heavy hearts, but with countless cherished memories and smiles, we announce the passing of David Brent Paquette, who passed away peacefully at the age of 57 after courageously facing many years of chronic illness and pain.
David leaves behind the love of his life and devoted wife, Tracy; his beloved stepsons, Kylen and Bryce; his children, Tayler, Kiera, and Jarod (Tiana); and his treasured granddaughter, Harley, who brought him endless pride, laughter, and joy. He is also lovingly remembered by his mother, Jacqueline, and his brothers, Wade and Joe. David was predeceased by his father, Howard, and his brother, Mark.
Born and raised in Kamloops, BC, David spent his younger years creating lifelong friendships and unforgettable adventures—many of which became stories that were retold with laughter for years afterward. His journey eventually brought him to Alberta, where he began a career in management before finding his way to the oil patch. While living in Lethbridge, he met Tracy, the love of his life. Together they built a wonderful life and eventually settled in Sylvan Lake, where David happily embraced lake life and all the simple joys that came with it.
David found happiness in the little things that make life special. He loved long walks with his dogs, spoiling his two cats, relaxing outdoors, and spending evenings around a campfire surrounded by family. He had a knack for bringing creativity and color into everything he did—whether he was painting, cooking an incredible meal, tackling a project with his power tools, or finding a way to fix something that others had given up on. He was always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, or make someone feel at home.
Above all else, David’s greatest joy was his family. He was immensely proud of his children and treasured every opportunity to be their father. Nothing brought him more happiness than watching them grow, celebrating their accomplishments, and simply spending time together. Becoming a grandfather to Harley added yet another special chapter to his life, and she held a very special place in his heart.
One of David’s proudest accomplishments, outside of his family, was his football career. In his senior year of high school, he earned Provincial All-Star Defensive Back honours and went on to play for the Okanagan Sun. In 2015, he and his teammates were inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame, a recognition that brought back countless memories and reunions with lifelong friends. Among his favorite memories was the Sun’s remarkable 1988 season, when the team completed an undefeated regular season and captured the franchise’s first national championship with a 50–0 victory over the Burlington Tiger-Cats. While he was proud of the achievement itself, it was the friendships, camaraderie, and stories that lasted a lifetime that meant the most to him.
David will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, loyalty, quick wit, and generous spirit. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and cared for, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and friendship. Though he will be deeply missed, those who knew him will carry his memory forward in every shared story, every campfire gathering, every helping hand offered, and every moment spent appreciating life’s simple pleasures.
In lieu of flowers, David would have appreciated a donation made in his memory to Castaway Animal Rescue Society.
