Lyle Elmer Travis of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at the age of 75 years. Lyle was born on September 7, 1950, to Faye Whatley and Charles Travis in Rimbey, Alberta. Lyle was a man who defined the spirit of the open road. He was a proud business owner and a dedicated lease operator for Northwest Tank Lines for 30 years. Lyle was known for his work ethic and his deep knowledge of the industry, truly working as hard as he played—which usually meant a high-stakes game of poker. Over the years, he loved riding horses, camping, boating, and his motorcycles. He is survived by his wife, Susan Travis; his sister, Villeta Travis; and his children: Tammy (Gord) Thompson, Shawna (Tim) Pols, Ken (Cori) Travis, Tyler (Rowdy) Travis, and Jesse (Kristen) Travis. He is also survived by his step-children, Kelsey Sutherland and Sheldon (Crystal) Petty; his grandchildren: Mackenzie (Chantel) Brown, Shae Thompson, Maddison (Steve) Scott, Sydney (Malcom) Potts, Taylor (Gord) Travis, Justin (Kayla) Travis, Scout, Wylie, Hayes Travis of Australia, Elaina, and Serena Travis; his great-grandchildren, Beckham and Mackinnon Scott; and numerous extended family members and friends. Lyle was predeceased by his parents, Faye Whatley and Charles Travis. A Celebration of Lyle’s Life was held at the Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion, 5108 – 49 Avenue, Innisfail, Alberta, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Following the celebration, Lyle was taken on his final ride to the Innisfail Cemetery in his semi-truck, driven by his longtime friend and employee, Morley. Anyone wishing to join the procession or attend the interment is welcome to follow the truck as we escort Lyle to his final resting place.
