Penhold mayor reappointed to FCM board

May 26, 2026 | 6:27 PM

Penhold Mayor Mike Yargeau has been reappointed to the board of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).

Yargeau was first elected to the board of FCM in 2021, and is one of seven representatives on it from Alberta. This go-around, his reappointment was by acclamation.

For background, FCM has been a national voice for municipal governments since 1901, representing nearly 2,000 municipalities and over 90 per cent of Canadians. Through its advocacy and programs, FCM works to ensure that the needs of local communities are reflected in federal policies and provides tools to help municipalities address local challenges.

Each year, leaders from those communities meet to set priorities on key national issues.

“It is a privilege to represent Alberta municipalities at the national level and to continue working with colleagues from across the country,” said Yargeau in a May 26 news release.

“FCM plays a critical role in ensuring that the voices of our communities are heard in Ottawa, and I look forward to continuing this important work on behalf of Penhold and municipalities like ours.”

Yargeau added that his involvement reinforces Penhold’s commitment to strong municipal leadership and active participation in national conversations.
