MacLeod, Charles Alexander
1946 ~ 2026
We are saddened to announce the death of Charles MacLeod on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in Red Deer, Alberta. He was born on June 11, 1946, to John Ross MacLeod and his wife, Pearl (MacDonald), and was raised on the family farm near MacCrimmon’s Corners, ON. He is survived by his brother, Donaldson (Isabel Clark), and his sister, Laurie Stephen (Douglas Stephen).
Charles graduated from Glengarry District High School and completed his engineering degree at the University of Guelph. Other diplomas he earned were from the University of Calgary — one in Industrial Process Control and the other in Project Management.
Over his long professional engineering career, he worked on many projects in wastewater management and pumping stations, gas utilization recovery, water supply, industrial engineering applications, and design development. He frequently spoke of how much he enjoyed working for Stantec and of the friendships he shared with his colleagues there. While he spent most of his career in Alberta, he appreciated the experiences and friends he encountered during his major assignments in Poland and Iceland.
He inherited his love of Scottish history and music from his community, friends, and family in Glengarry County. He became an accomplished accordion player and enjoyed folk music events such as the Calgary Folk Festival and the Glengarry Highland Games. In later years, he enjoyed spending part of the winter in Ecuador and southern British Columbia.
A memorial service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 4718–50 Street, Red Deer, Alberta, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at Stantec, 1100, 4900–50 Street, Red Deer.
Interment will take place at the Kirkhill United Church Cemetery on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at the Dalkeith Hall.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations in his memory be made to Kirkhill United Church, 21122 County Road 24, Dalkeith, Ontario, K0B 1E0, or to Knox Presbyterian Church, 4718 50th Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 1X2.
