WHITLOW, Robert
1935 ~ 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Robert Gordon “Bob” Whitlow, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the Olds Hospital and Care Centre at the age of 91 years. Bob was born in Calgary, Alberta, on March 14, 1935, the youngest of three children born to Jim and Margaret Whitlow. He was raised on the family farm and attended school in Cremona, Alberta, where he developed the strong work ethic and community spirit that would guide him throughout his life. In July of 1955, Bob married the love of his life, Alice Coleman. Together they built a life on the family farm east of Cremona, where they farmed for the next 30 years while raising their five children. Bob was deeply involved in his community and was an active member of several local organizations, including the Lions Club and the Elks. He was also very active in the curling community and enjoyed attending many bonspiels over the years, forming lasting friendships and creating many cherished memories.
In 1985, Bob and Alice moved from the farm to Didsbury, where Bob embraced town life with the same energy and dedication he had shown on the farm. He worked as a groundskeeper at the Didsbury Golf Course before starting his own lawn care business. Over the years, he also lent a helping hand to many local tradesmen and businesses, always willing to offer his time and skills wherever they were needed.
In 2017, Bob and Alice moved to Campus Green Condominium, where Bob once again became actively involved, taking pride in helping with the maintenance and care of the complex. In late October 2025, he moved to Chinook Winds Lodge in Carstairs.
Bob is lovingly remembered by his children: Patsy (Gord) of Calgary, Randy (Mary) of Cremona, Leslie (Dennis) of Lethbridge, Sandra (Randy) of Water Valley, and Donna (John) of Didsbury.
He will also be dearly remembered by his grandchildren: Jason (Melissa), Aaron (Linda), Trevor, Brad (Amanda), Heather (Matt), Megan, Carmen, Taylor, and Jessie; and by his great-grandchildren: Deklyn, Tanner, Julia, David, Callie, Maxwell, and Emma. Bob will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends and neighbours whose lives he touched throughout the years.
Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Alice; his parents, Jim and Margaret; and his sisters, Margaret Rennich and Irene Tippe.
Bob will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
At Bob’s request, a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
