Margaret Anne Martin
April 11, 1946 – March 19, 2026
Anne passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the age of 79. She lived a life marked by courage, creativity, a lifelong love of learning, and a quiet, personal faith in God.
Born in Calgary, Alberta, Anne was the eldest of six children. From an early age, she showed both artistic and intellectual gifts. She was a gifted musician and played the piano beautifully in her younger years, filling her home with music.
Anne had a gentle and creative spirit. She expressed her love through her art—creating clever, hand-drawn birthday and special occasion cards that brought joy and laughter to friends and family. These gestures reflected her deep care, her humor, and the attentiveness she gave to those she loved. She also created numerous paintings and drawings, many of which she kept private. Her artwork is now cherished by her family and serves as a lasting reminder of her creativity and thoughtful nature. Anne had a deep devotion to her family. Time and again, as she was able, she stepped forward with unwavering support, offering care, presence, and strength in times of need.
A lifelong learner, Anne explored sciences related to nursing and pharmacy, and later earned a degree in sociology. Her curiosity about the world never waned, and she would have happily remained a student her entire life if she could.
Anne faced the challenges of multiple sclerosis with remarkable courage. As the disease gradually took away much of her physical independence, she remained strong, resilient, and graceful. Even in moments of vulnerability, her quiet determination, warmth, and gentle presence inspired all who knew her.
Anne was predeceased by her younger sister Virginia Denis (2002); her brother Stan Martin (2010); her brothers-in-law, Charles Brown (1986) and Alan Dann (2014); her parents, Margaret Martin (2009) and Douglas Martin (2011); her grandparents, Austin Davis Hall and Gertrude Belle Hall (née Hughes), and William Blythe Martin and Dolly Lee Martin (née Reynalds); and her paternal uncles: Uncle Stan (WWII), Uncle Bill and Aunt Marguerite, Uncle Alex and Aunt Marjorie, and Uncle Jack and Aunt Joan and special cousin “Uncle” Hugh Martin.
She is lovingly remembered by her three sisters: Dolly Brown, Susan Lougheed, and Bonnie Matthias and her husband Rex; her brother-in-law Brad Denis and his wife Karen Barlow; her Uncle Howard and Aunt Mickey; her mother’s half-siblings, Peggy Carson and Brian Killins and their families; and her cherished nieces and nephews, whose lives she followed with endless curiosity and joy: Brendan Wanderer and Amanda-Eve Slattery (children Taran and Rhiannon), Nicholas Lougheed and Laura Eastham (son Jasper), Michael Denis (daughter Tasia Johnson), Jamey Lougheed, Joey Lougheed, Curtis and Eva Matthias, Jordan and Clare Denis (children Jackson, Izabella, and a baby sister on the way), Ami and Jesse Martin (children Mickie and Sunny), Stephanie and Marc Pinaud (children Rosie and a baby sister on the way), and Danielle Denis. Anne is also fondly remembered by her step-nieces and step-nephew and their families, as well as many cousins from far and wide, and friends.
Anne will be remembered for her kindness, her courage, her love of learning, her artistic gifts, and the quiet, steady way she cared for those around her. Her warmth, gentle smile, and devotion to family, along with her private faith in God, leave a lasting imprint on all who knew her.
