WYTRYKUSH, William
1948 – 2026
William Nicholas Wytrykush passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the age of 77 years, with his wife by his side.
William was born on November 22, 1948, in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, to Michael and Anna Wytrykush. He was the youngest of eleven children, growing up alongside four sisters and six brothers on a small acreage just half a mile west of town. His early years were shaped by farm life, where he worked hard alongside his siblings doing chores and contributing to the family.
Despite the demands of farm life, William often spoke fondly of his childhood. He cherished memories of playing baseball on a travelling team and competing in school basketball, where his height made him a standout player. Ever resourceful, he found ways to help support the family—catching gophers to sell as pets to city children, digging Seneca root, and working for neighbors whenever he could.
As a teenager, William joined the cadets, an experience that allowed him to travel and explore beyond his hometown during the summer months, something he greatly valued. He attended St. Joseph’s College in Yorkton for his high school education.
In 1967, William met Adelle Wilkinson, who would become the love of his life. After several years together, he proposed in June of 1970, and they were married on May 22, 1971. Together, they built a life grounded in love, partnership, and family.
William and Adelle had two children: Jason (born 1973), who is married to Kjersti, and Brandice (born 1975), who is married to Darren. William was a beloved “Pop” to his grandchildren, Noah, Luke, Brittney, Connor, Jonas, and Sawyer, and a great-grandfather to Henry, Eloise, and Isla. His family was his greatest joy, and he took immense pride in each generation.
Throughout his life, William was known for his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. He held a wide variety of jobs and operated several businesses, including a summer burger bar, parcel delivery contracts, and a gas station and tow truck operation. However, his most cherished and defining work was installing and finishing hardwood floors—a craft he took great pride in. This work brought William and Adelle to Alberta, where they lived in Calgary, Cochrane, and eventually settled in Sylvan Lake.
William will be remembered by neighbors and friends as someone who was always willing to lend a helping hand, never expecting anything in return. He was generous, gentle, and kind. He was also the cherished supplier of ice cream to his grandchildren, who will dearly miss their walks together to the Moo.
William will also be remembered for his dedication to his family, his storytelling, his hardworking nature, and the many memories he created with those he loved. His legacy lives on in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
