Inaugural Iron Ridge grads excited to pull an all-nighter

If you can hear anything coming from Iron Ridge Secondary Campus the night of April 23, don’t worry, it’s just the inaugural graduating class hosting their first-ever ‘Wake-a-thon.’

This year, the event will benefit the class’s grad festivities, from decorations to flowers, and from contract deposits to photography costs, plus other typical grad night staples.

The goal: to stay awake all night, for fun, with each student raising a minimum of $75.

According to organizers, teachers will be taking shifts to supervise the students. But as the students try to stay awake, they will have many activities to keep them busy. That includes glow-in-the-dark dodgeball in the gym, and hide-and-seek throughout the school, plus karaoke on the stage, a bake-off, video games and board games, and a photo scavenger hunt.

“It’s all the people that we’ve kind of grown up with for a long time in Blackfalds. We’ve all known each other for a while, so I think it’ll be really fun,” said Harmony Jarvis, graduating student and co-organizer.

“I really like the idea of being in the smaller school, because everyone knows each other, or for the most part are friends with each other.”
