“Red Deer RCMP wish to remind vehicle owners of the dangers of after-market tinted windows. Tinted windows pose an extreme safety risk to all occupants of a vehicle, as well as other vehicles and pedestrians on the roads,” the detachment says in a release.

“Driver vision is significantly impacted particularly at night, and tinted window coverings eliminate the purpose of safety glass. Safety glass is meant to shatter with soft edges reducing injury. Tint holds the glass pieces together which creates dangerous jagged edges that can cause significant injury to a person.”

Eleven drivers received immediate roadside sanctions for impaired driving with blood alcohol readings over 0.08 per cent; this number reflects only the highest level of impairment and is not a complete representation of all impaired drivers in the city. 

There were 64 distracted driving infractions, and 53 people were identified not wearing a seatbelt.

In addition to the above, six liquor, two cannabis, and 17 other provincial infractions were enforced.

“Red Deer RCMP would like to remind the public that traffic safety is a shared responsibility,” Red Deer Mounties add.

“Drivers and owners are responsible for having proper documentation: driver’s license, registration, and insurance. Red Deer RCMP Traffic Services are committed to reducing collisions and making roads safer for our citizens.”
