William “Wayne” Ethier
1958 – 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William “Wayne” Ethier, who passed away on April 8, 2026, at the age of 68, following a battle with neck cancer.
Wayne was born on January 12, 1958, in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, to Rex and Betty Asselstine. He lived a full and adventurous life, known for his humor, resilience, and spirited nature. Wayne spent time as a bullfighter in the rodeo world, proudly working the Canadian Finals Rodeo in 1983, along with many other associations in Canada. Over the years, he also worked as a pipeliner, a driver for Loomis, and a cook on tugboats for George Streeper-always willing to take on new challenges and experiences.
Wayne spent the past 10+ years in long-term care, which limited the time he was able to spend with his family. Despite this, his greatest pride and joy was always his children.
Wayne is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his sons, Myles and Kail; his stepdaughter, Shayna; and his grandchildren, Roman, Tucker, Blaze, Ella, and Kade. He will also be remembered by his brothers, Brian and Blaine, along with their families, as well as numerous extended family members and many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Rex and Betty, and his brother, Zach.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Janelle and Jo-ann for their help and compassion, as well as to Meaningful Memorials for their care and support.
Wayne will be remembered for his strong presence, his stories, and the life he lived on his own terms. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In keeping with Wayne’s wishes, a celebration of life arrangements coming soon.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Ave., Red Deer, AB T4R 3S6.
