1935 ~ 2026

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Douglas Charles Bruce on Friday, February 6, 2026 in Grande Prairie, Alberta; after a long illness at the age of 91 years.

Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on January 23, 1935 to Ted and Olive Bruce.

Doug had a long and productive life living and working in Saskatchewan while raising his children. He left Saskatchewan in the early 1970s and worked extensively in Alberta. He was branch manager for ICG propane in High Level, retiring in 1994. He met his present wife Louise there and they moved to Didsbury, Alberta in 1997.

Doug loved nature and enjoyed road trips to spend time in the great outdoors. He was an avid golfer, won many tournaments and played until his illness forced him to stop in 2024.

Douglas is lovingly remembered by his wife Louise; daughter Cindy (Tim) Oleksyn; son Scott Bruce; brother Gerald (Jackie) Bruce; sister Marlene Wildey. Stepchildren and families: Sherrill (Pat) Young; Lisa (Alvin) Chalifoux; Mitch (Brenda) Alexander; Dan (Kelly) Alexander; Kevin Alexander; Kelly (Dave) Fortier; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and extended family members.

A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held at Heartland Funeral Services, (Didsbury Chapel), 1413 – 21 Avenue, Didsbury, Alberta on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with a light lunch to follow.
