Susan Carolynne Peet
1959 – 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Carolynne Peet, known to everyone as Sue or Suzie, on March 7, 2026, at the Red Deer Hospice, peacefully surrounded by her family and closest friends, at the age of 66.
Sue was born on July 20, 1959, in Montreal, Quebec, a place that shaped so much of who she was, including her lifelong devotion as a true Montreal Canadiens fan. Sue’s deep love for animals began early. In her younger years, she spent time training racehorses, something she was incredibly proud of and often spoke about with pure joy. Later, she made Red Deer, Alberta her home, where she built a beautiful life focused on her career and raising her incredible boys. Her heart was always full of family, friendship, love and laughter.
Sue had a long and dedicated career as a CPA with the Government of Canada, but her greatest role, her true life’s work, was being a mom and later a Gammy. Her boys were her everything. She was always present and involved, whether in school, sports, or the everyday moments that mattered most. From coaching to keeping the books, she gave her time and energy without hesitation. Creating memories with her sons was always her top priority.
Sue found joy in so many things: gardening, flowers, and getting her hands in the dirt. She could never have enough plants and flowers, always finding space for just one more. She loved all crafting, puzzles, and taking on new DIY projects, often found with a paintbrush or a shovel in hand. She was always collecting rocks or ornaments for her landscaping projects, adding her own special touch to every space she created. A gifted and skilled Amazon shopper, she could find just about anything she needed (and plenty she didn’t). There was nothing she wasn’t willing to try or accomplish on her own.
She had a deep love of travel and was always excitedly planning her next adventure, looking forward to the places she would go and the memories she would make. Whether near or far, those experiences brought her great happiness. Sue loved spending time with her people, especially playing cards and games, where laughter was guaranteed, and if you knew Sue, you knew that winning was always the goal. She also loved ice cream, because in Sue’s world, there was always a time and place for it. She enjoyed golfing with friends and had recently tried her hand at pickleball with her partner Dave, embracing it as another way to share time together. Yet another activity she was ready to take on with enthusiasm.
Her love of animals remained with her throughout her life, and she was rarely without a beloved pet by her side. She passed peacefully with her cherished dog, Lucas, very close to her. She also loved camping, Sea-Dooing, quadding, and kayaking, where many of her happiest memories and lifelong friendships were made.
A true Montreal girl at heart, Sue was a die-hard Canadiens fan who loved watching hockey and cheering them on every chance she got. Had she been able to fit her 85” TV into her hospice suite, she absolutely would have (not for lack of trying) but she made do and still enjoyed every moment.
Sue had the biggest and most giving heart, a true heart of gold. She had a smile that could brighten anyone’s day and a sense of humour that brought laughter and joy to everyone around her. She had a gift for seeing the good in people and carried a positivity that never wavered.
Even in her final days, she continued to smile, laugh, and make jokes, lifting up all of those around her, just as she always had. That was Sue: strong, selfless, and full of light right to the very end. She always put others first, giving so much of herself to everyone around her. Her kindness, generosity, and love will remain within all who were blessed to know and love her.
Sue is survived by, and will be forever loved and deeply missed by, her four sons: Ryan (Thea) Peet, Sean (Liz) Peet, Jeff (Kyla) Peet, and Evan Peet; her partner, David Tanner; and her cherished grandchildren, Dayson, Mitchell, and Zora, who knew her and will remember her as their proud and devoted “Gammy.” She also held a very special place in her heart for her daughters-in-law, whom she loved dearly; she was so happy to finally have girls to spoil. Sue will also be lovingly remembered by her many lifelong friends, extended family, and her very Best girls, who all were truly like sisters to her. She was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Ida Essiambret, and her brother, David Essiambret.
In memory of Sue, donations may be made to the Red Deer Hospice (reddeerhospice.com), whose compassionate care meant so much to Sue and her family.
A casual, come-and-go Celebration of Life will be held for Sue at the Bower-Kin Community Centre, 85 Boyce Street, Red Deer, Alberta, on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. All who knew and loved Sue are welcome to attend, share stories, cheers to and celebrate a truly remarkable woman.
Condolences, memories, and photos may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. In keeping with Sue’s wishes, a private tree planting will take place at a later date, with the location and tree thoughtfully chosen by Sue herself.
