Our family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Cheryl Ann Metzger on Sunday March 8, 2026 at the age of 69. Cheryl was born January 7, 1957 in Innisfail, Alberta to George and Olive Metzger, the fourth of five children. She leaves behind two beautiful daughters, Keyalanna Metzger of Rocky Mountain House, and Brookelyn Metzger of Innisfail, as well as three cherished granddaughters, Taylor, Anna and Blaire.
Cheryl was predeceased by her parents, her older sisters Brenda (Doug) Hampton and Jessie (Don) Davidson. She is survived and remembered by her older brother Russell (Debbie) Metzger and younger sister Kathy (Dale) Layden. Cheryl was a devoted “mom” to her two cherished fur-babies, Libby-Lou and Jennie. She will also be deeply missed by her many nieces and their families.
Cheryl grew up in Innisfail and graduated from High school in 1975. Although she lived in different communities, she eventually returned to her roots in her hometown of Innisfail. She had a variety of jobs throughout the years, including waitressing, cooking at crew camps, and as a group home aide. In 1985, she attended Red Deer College for Early Childhood Development. Finally, finding her long-term career as a Health Care Aid for more than 30 years at Innisfail Hospital and Care Centre. Here she gave her heart to those she cared for. Even with very little she worked to give back to others.
Cheryl had an adventurous spirit. She loved the great outdoors and always wished for more time in the mountains and by the ocean. One of her fondest memories was her time in Australia, where she worked as a chef on private yachts—a chapter of her life she treasured deeply. She carried those experiences with her and savored them always.
She found great joy being around her friends (Kathy, Diane, Laurie, Elfie and many more), playing music, attending concerts, reading (when her sight was better) and gardening. She loved spending her time with her friends playing crib, bingo and Yahtzee.
We take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all that knew and loved her.
