NEUFELD, Lyle
1957 ~ 2026
Mr. Lyle David Neufeld went home to Jesus on Wednesday March 4, 2026 at Didsbury, Alberta at the age of 69 years. He was born February 28, 1957 at the General Hospital in Calgary, Alberta to Ben and Olga Neufeld and lived in Calgary until 1968 when his parents moved to Didsbury, Alberta to farm the original Neufeld homestead. Lyle loved the farm; the animals, shooting gophers, open fields, driving tractor – although the beating sun and eating dust were not good times. He helped his dad with building granaries and cattle shelters while in high school. School was not his favorite, so he quit in grade 11 and worked for some friends and neighbors. He worked at various jobs in Red Deer, a notable one was the quarry for the Dickson Dam, excavating boulders for it; then in Calgary until 1984 when he moved to Abbotsford, BC. He had visited family there a few times and decided to try to find work; the area became his home for 38 years.
Lyle was blessed to find work on an acreage in Aldergrove where he loved being in the country with his various dogs. He was able to learn more about heavy equipment operating, working with jade and gold mining in northern BC/Yukon and tungsten mining in the Yukon. He also worked with a friend in Prince George area clearing bush. In the Fraser Valley he worked for several companies clearing development sites, helped start the composing site in Abbotsford, gravel crushing, loading/unloading barges in Mission, blasting/loading granite from Sumas Mountain. He lived on a second acreage in Abbotsford the last 12 years, continuing with work in the area and on helping on the acreage.
Lyle was always for the ‘under-dog’, willing to give help where needed. He made friends easily and they remained important to him.
He loved dogs and had three very special ones over his time in the Valley; KD, Harv and Keira. Rarely did he go anywhere without them.
The Valley had been changing so much that in 2022 Lyle decided he wanted out and came back to Didsbury. Of course, not the town but just west of Didsbury/Olds where he was able to find an apartment over a shop that suited his needs perfectly.
Lyle’s health became a concern just before moving to Didsbury as he was diagnosed with colon cancer; he wanted nothing to do with ‘pharma treatments, instead going with natural options. He managed well, but over the last year changes became apparent. In January a decline started drastically and moved quickly.
Lyle always had faith and believed in God but did not have a personal relationship with Jesus; Feb 15th, while on the hospital bed, he made that commitment to make Jesus Lord of his life. He was at peace in his heart and with what was coming.
Lyle was predeceased by his parents Ben and Olga Neufeld, great nephew Ryker Neufeld and stepmother Lillian Neufeld, Grandparents, numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
He is survived by his brother Jerry (Charlene), of Chilliwack British Columbia; sisters Marjorie (Richard) McCue and Linda Neufeld of Didsbury. Niece Elise (James) Davenport, nephews Ben (Trish) Neufeld, Tim Neufeld and Joel (Meghan) Neufeld and 12 great nieces and nephews. Also, by stepbrother Bill (Annelis) Wilson, Vancouver, BC and stepsisters Terry Wilson, Vancouver, BC and Sherry McEwan, Calgary, Aunts Esther Christensen, Ann Neufeld, Edna Neufeld, Sarah Neufeld, Dean Erickson and Uncle David (Sara) Derksen and numerous cousins.
The family would like to thank everyone who visited and called Lyle while in hospital. Also, to the staff who made his stay there comfortable.
