It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Paul Robinson on Friday, February 6, 2026 just three weeks shy of his 75th birthday. Paul was born in the village of Haydock in Lancashire, England, on February 27th, 1951. He immigrated to Canada at the age of three with his parents Joseph Robinson and Joyce (nee Eden) Robinson. The family first landed in Stettler and ultimately settled in Red Deer when Paul was fourteen. Paul, however, was never quite ‘settled’ in his path. After graduating from Ecole Lindsay Thurber High School, he briefly attended the University of Calgary but dropped out after just one year to pursue his passion for music. In subsequent years, he worked on the railroads, climbed mountains and fell in love with the Pacific Northwest while living in Victoria, BC. Paul had a deep love and respect for nature, and enjoyed hiking, camping and photography. He eventually returned to Red Deer, where he worked at Joffre Petrochemical plant until his retirement in 2017. Throughout his life and many adventures, there remained one constant touchstone: his enduring love and passion for music. Paul was a fixture in Central Alberta’s music scene for decades, playing bass in bands such as Sam, Buckstone County and the Geezers to name just a few. He maintained respect and curiosity for emergent artists well into his 70’s. Music remained his true love until the end of his life. Paul is survived by his daughter, Shannon Robinson, with whom he shared his reverence for nature and love for music. Through Shannon, Paul will also be remembered by her mother Lee and siblings Megan (Jeremy) and Lindsey. Paul will be missed by an extended circle of old friends across Alberta and British Columbia. He is also survived by extended family in the north of England. A Small Celebration of Paul’s Life will be held at Pioneer’s Lodge, 4324 – 46A Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, April 3, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Messages and memories can be shared directly with Shannon at shannonedenrobinson@gmail.com.
