Wenatchee Wild score in OT to sink Rebels at home

Mar 10, 2026 | 10:09 PM

The Red Deer Rebels fell to the Wenatchee Wild 5-4 in overtime following an action-packed third period on Tuesday.

Wild rookie Mason Kraft scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, 1:46 into the extra frame at the Centrium. In the meantime, forward Kohen Lodge led the way offensively for Red Deer with a multi-goal game.

Head coach Marc Habscheid said they knew the Wild compete hard, and they didn’t disappoint.

“We wish we had gotten two points, probably didn’t deserve two, but we got one, which was a big point for sure,” he said after the game.

As a result, the Rebels remain the sole owner of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 53 points, just two points ahead of the Moose Jaw Warriors. Red Deer also trail the Regina Pats, who are in seventh place, by just three points with five games to go.

“We wanted two points, especially at home, but it just seemed like we didn’t have a lot of jump tonight,” Habscheid added. “We were second to pucks quite a bit, but sometimes you’ll get those games… I thought the guys were ready. We talked about it being a letdown possibly after the Prince Albert game, but you can’t have let downs with six games to go with your playoff lives on the line.”

The Rebels struck first with a tally from Lodge, who scored his third of the season, 2:30 into the game.

After forward Grayden Peterson fired a shot on net, Lodge found the puck on the rebound and tucked it past the goalie.

The Wild found the equalizer midway through the second period when Mason Kraft redirected the puck past the goalie on the power play.

However, in the third period, Red Deer retook the lead with 18:27 left in the game. Forward Cameron Kuzma knocked in the rebound in front of the net following a shot from Patrick Sopiarz.

The Wild tied the game with a goal from former Rebel Zane Torre just over four minutes later and then took the lead less than two minutes after that off the stick of Caelan Joudrey.

With under 10 minutes to go, Red Deer forward Poul Andersen tied it with a goal in alone after Cole Temple fed him in the slot.

With 4:24 remaining, Lodge scored his second of the game to give the Rebels a 4-3 lead, but the Wild answered 42 seconds later with a tally from Aiden Grossklaus.

In overtime, the Wild came out on top with 3:14 remaining with Kraft’s second of the game.

Next up, the Rebels will welcome the Brandon Wheat Kings to the Centrium on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by the Calgary Hitmen on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Rebels notes: The Rebels were without 20-year-old forward Tyson Yaremko, who’s out week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

In addition, Rebels defenceman Aleksey Chichkin left the game and did not return with what appeared to be an injury.
