Jean Holt Mason (nee Martin) and Denis Charles Mason, residents of Didsbury,
Alberta, passed away on Friday, February 27 and Sunday March 1, aged 88 and 91.
Denis and Jean were both born in Manchester, England, and it was through Jean’s
brother Gerald, a good friend of Denis’s, that they met, fell in love, and married.
The following year, the first of their children, Duncan Charles, was born; Lynn
Jean was born in 1959, and Tracy May in 1962 .
Seeking a better life for their beloved family, Jean and Denis emigrated to Calgary,
Alberta, Canada in 1966. Denis worked in the construction field for many years in
Calgary as a carpenter and electrician for Atco, and Jean became a cosmetologist at
the Hudson’s Bay store in downtown Calgary, specializing in products by Max
Factor and Shiseido.
In 1980, they all moved to Victoria, BC, where Denis found work as Building
Supervisor at BC Ferries Head Office, while Jean once again found herself
working for the Hudson’s Bay in downtown Victoria.
In 2000, returning to Alberta after many years, Jean and Denis retired to Didsbury
where they enjoyed the small town ambience and friendly atmosphere of “life on
the prairies”.
Jean and Denis are lovingly remembered by all the family, including Duncan and
Wendy and Rael, Tracy and her dear Kelsey and Callum, Lynn and Rick, Steven
and Audrey, Haley and Jaas. In addition, the great grandchildren who brightened
their lives in so many ways: Dylan, Piper, Nate, Luna, and Gwen. Other family
members in Australia and the UK have also expressed their condolences and fond
memories of dear Jean and Denis.
Looking back, the generosity, love and devotion shown by Jean and Denis to each
other and to every member of the family will be a cherished memory for all of us.
All who knew mum and dad recognized their sincere joy of life and the pleasure of
giving. They sustained us in life, and their memory will sustain us as we go
forward, lessened by their loss, but enriched by their memory.

The Gathering
Our loved ones gather
Near those that are here
And those that have passed
The voices we will never forget.
Our loved ones and the angels draw nearer
Ever closer
The stories being told, the memories
Being shared.
The Gathering has begun
The veil is thinning
The last of the life force of the earth body
Dancing between worlds in time and space.
They reach out now to take you to the oceans
Of the soul’s gate.
Reunited and rebirthing.
A song that aches deep in our hearts
Peace be the whisper on our lips.
