Robert Douglas George (Bob) Murray passed away suddenly at the age of 77 at the Red Deer regional centre a week after suffering a life altering stroke on February 25, 2026. Born in Powell River BC, March 14, 1948, he was a devoted husband, loving father, and beloved Grandpa (Popi). A friend and father to many.
Dad was a self-sacrificing, back-breakingly hard worker. Offering himself in every capacity to provide, protect, and love his blood and adopted. From his first job working at a movie theatre in Powell River BC to truck driving for Blue Wave Energy delivering propane to surrounding areas of Edson Alberta, dad was a provider. Dad worked as a folk singer, lumber grader, mill worker, surveyor, and even in hot tub maintenance. In his younger years he was a fisherman and a Fisher of Men when pastoring after graduating from North Western Pentecostal Bible College. If he wasn’t providing financially, he spent much of his time volunteering with special needs groups, youth, men, and seniors. Whether providing practically, musically, or simply connecting, dad always gave his full yes in whatever was needed. In his last years Baker Bob was never far from a kitchen providing buns and meals for his home and for the homes of his daughters as they grew their families.
Dad was never afraid to talk to anyone. He would often say he wasn’t afraid of anything aside from heights, and his life and adventures showed it. Dad was never one to be outdone. Whether in story or physical exertion, it was not uncommon for dad to compete with the youngest and strongest in arm wrestling or pushups. Often winning his self-initiated competitions. He added life, grit, humour, and Jesus wherever he went. He was loved and loved bigger. Strangers or family; dad was there for anyone and everyone. There will never be another Bob Murray.
He has joined his brother and sister-in-law John and Lorna Murray as well as his parents John Alexander (Sandy) and Mable Murray in heaven with their beloved Saviour. Survived by his wife Dorie Murray and youngest son Quinn Murray. Doug and Rachel Murray and their children Melissa, Nathan (wife Anika), and Megan (husband Jerimiah). Darrel and Amanda Murray and their daughter Tessa. Kyla and Jonathan Thornton and their children Niah, Shael, and Zach. Shalan Murray and his fiance Erika. Mishala and Mike Friesen and their children Josie, Lina, Emmett, and Eloise. His brother and sister-in-law Dave and Linda Murray. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends that are now considered family; Ted and Michelle Boodle, Bob and Carol Purves, Reuben and Sharon Gayton, Scott and Franki Perish, and Cor and Judy Vanermulin. All of these, and many more, will miss him greatly.
A memorial service will be held at CrossRoads Church on March 14, at 1pm, snacks and drinks to follow.
The service will be livestreamed here: https://www.crossroadschurch.ca/livefunerals
Close friends and family will have a space to gather at HJ Cody School Sylvan Lake after the service. Please enter at the North entrance and meet in the LCS room.
In lieu of flowers we ask donations to be offered to the newly widowed Dorie and dependent son Quinn or to the Dream centre in Red Deer.
We find comfort in knowing without a doubt that dad is with the Lord and his memory and legacy of faith lives on through his friends and family. Romans 14:8: “If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”
