This week in RDP Athletics: Feb. 20-22

This week, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Curling team will compete at nationals. The RDP Basketball and Volleyball squads will play the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks. The Queens Hockey team will face-off against the NAIT Ooks while the RDP Kings Hockey team will compete against the SAIT Trojans.

Here is a summary of the upcoming competition:

Curling

Queens | CCAA Curling Canada College Championships | Regina, Saskatchewan | February 17-21

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Curling team will be in the hunt for a national medal at the Callie Curling Club in Regina. The RDP Queens won their most recent Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Curling title in 2017.

Basketball

Queens vs. Kodiaks | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, February 20 | 6 p.m.

The seventh-place Queens Basketball team (5-14) will play the fourth-seed Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (10-9) at home.

The RDP Queens have been successful on 24.5 per cent of their three-point attempts.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens and Kodiaks will wrap up their weekend series.

Kings vs. Kodiaks | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, February 20 | 8 p.m.

The seventh-seed RDP Kings Basketball team (2-17) will tip-off against the second-place Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (13-6) in Red Deer. The Kings have averaged 35.6 rebounds per game.

Kings vs. Kodiaks | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, February 21 | 3 p.m.

The Kings will face the Kodiaks.

Hockey

Queens vs. Ooks | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, February 20 | 7 p.m.

The second-seed Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team (16-8) will take on the third-place NAIT Ooks (14-10) at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

This will be a preview of an Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women’s Hockey Semi-Final.

Kings at Trojans | Friday, February 20 | 6:45 p.m.

The top-seed RDP Kings Hockey team (19-3) will face off against the second-place SAIT Trojans (15-7) in Calgary. Both squads have clinched playoff spots.

Kings vs. Trojans | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, February 21 | 7 p.m.

The Kings will challenge the Trojans at home.

Futsal

Queens vs. Ooks | Edmonton Soccer Centre East | Saturday, February 21 | 12 p.m.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Futsal team will play the NAIT Ooks.

Queens vs. Thunder | Edmonton Soccer Centre East | Saturday, February 21 | 2:30 p.m.

The RDP Queens and Concordia University Thunder will meet in Edmonton.

Queens vs. Wolves | Edmonton Soccer Centre East | Sunday, February 22 | 9 a.m.

The Queens will face the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves.

Kings vs. Ooks | Edmonton Soccer Centre East | Saturday, February 21 | 1:15 p.m.

The RDP Kings and NAIT Ooks will clash in Edmonton.

Kings vs. Thunder | Edmonton Soccer Centre East | Saturday, February 21 | 3:45 p.m.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings will compete against the Concordia University

Thunder. Kings vs. Wolves | Edmonton Soccer Centre East | Sunday, February 22 | 10:15 a.m.

The Kings will face the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves on the road.

Volleyball

Queens at Kodiaks | Friday, February 20 | 6 p.m.

The second-seed Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Volleyball squad (15-2) will compete against the fifth-place Kodiaks (5-12). Autumn Letwin ranks third in the ACAC with a 0.420 hitting percentage.

Queens at Kodiaks | Saturday, February 21 | 1 p.m.

The Queens and Kodiaks will meet in Lethbridge.

Kings at Kodiaks | Friday, February 20 | 8 p.m.

The second-place RDP Kings Volleyball team (15-2) will challenge the third-seed Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (12-5) on the road. Red Deer’s Colby Nemeth leads the league with 4.15 kills per set.

Kings at Kodiaks | Saturday, February 21 | 3 p.m.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings will play the Kodiaks.
