Lacombe County ratepayers will soon get to park for free at Sandy Point Beach and Sunbreaker Cove

Lacombe County announced the expansion of its paid parking program to include free parking for county ratepayers at a pair of boat launches.

The change will officially begin on May 15 this year, so eligible residents will be able to park for free at Sandy Point Beach & boat launch and Sunbreaker Cove boat launch after registering through the HotSpot Parking system.

Officials say each property tax account will be able to register three different license plates, which must be done at least 24 hours before parking at either location

The change comes after county council approved creating a parking exemption for Lacombe County ratepayers on Feb. 12.

“Since launching the paid parking program, we have heard from ratepayers who felt they should not have to pay for parking at facilities supported by their municipal taxes. This update reflects that feedback and recognizes the ongoing contributions of Lacombe County ratepayers,” said Lacombe County Reeve John Ireland. “We encourage ratepayers to register early so they can enjoy a smooth and positive start to the season.”

Those eligible include county ratepayers who own a property in Lacombe County, pay property taxes, and provide proof of ownership and residency.

Registration is scheduled to open in April 2026, and the county will provide registration information before the program begins in May.
