HATTEN, Harold John
1931 – 2026
Mr. Harold Hatten of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the age of 94 years. Harold was born in Drumheller, Alberta on April 23, 1931. He was raised in the Drumheller and Bottrel, Alberta area before later living abroad during his military service. Harold proudly served in the Canadian military. His service included postings in Germany, notably in Lahr and the Zweibrücken area, with time spent in the Schwarzwald region, including Freiburg. Harold also had postings in Red Deer and was a Master Corporal in the Airforce working as the radar tech in Penhold, Alberta. Harold worked in a variety of roles, including ranch hand, realtor, and employment with Woolco before it became Walmart, as well as operating lawn service work. He was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to take on any task. He was an active member of several organizations, including the Royal Canadian Legion, AMA, and MEDOC, as well as Foresters insurance associations. In his leisure time, Harold greatly enjoyed curling, running, and exploring the countryside. He and his spouse especially cherished traveling to Wellton as snowbirds, enjoying warmer climates and new surroundings. Harold was predeceased by his first wife, Joyce Ezme Hatten and his beloved second wife, Evelyn Anne Hatten. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Marie Peters and Alice Smith. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Eileen Hatten of Red Deer, Lee-Ann Jansma of Edmonton, Stephen John Hatten of Ponoka, Alberta, Lawrence James Hatten of Lavington, British Columbia, and Keith Hatten of Lethbridge, Alberta. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Harold will be remembered for his dedication to service, love of the outdoors, and quiet enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. The family would like to thank the Red Deer Hospice for their phenomenal care they gave Harold and a great thank you to Stan Stadel for the many years of true friendship he shared with Harold.
