The family of Lucille Anne McMillan is saddened to announce her peaceful passing on January 28, 2026, at the age of 87.
Lucille will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Donald McMillan, her daughters Shauna Day and Marilyn (Alan) Hilsabeck, stepdaughter Sandi (Lloyd) Croaker, brother Murray (Margie) Lunt, five grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She will also be dearly missed by her honorary son, Albert (Donna) Sunderland as well as all her friends at Knox Presbyterian Church in Red Deer.
She was pre-deceased by her first husband, Johnny Day, her parents, Percy and Jennette Lunt, and brothers Eddie and Dennis.
Lucille was born in Didsbury, Alberta, but grew up in Penhold. She attended Penhold School and was valedictorian of her graduating class at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School in Red Deer. She received a bursary to attend the University of Alberta and obtained teaching accreditation from the satellite campus in Calgary. She went on to have a long teaching career, primarily at Westpark School in Red Deer. She taught many children to read and write and love learning, while tying thousands of shoes, wiping countless runny noses, and giving hugs and encouragement. Many of her former students came back to thank her for the impact she had on their lives.
In retirement, Don and Lucille spent winters in Arizona for many years where they golfed, enjoyed the warmer weather, and made lasting friendships. Her family was the centre of her life, and she leaves an inspiring legacy of love, hospitality, and kindness. Lucille overcame personal tragedies and health challenges with humour, grace and determination.
A Memorial Service will be held at a Knox Presbyterian Church, 4718-50 St, Red Deer AB on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 2:00 pm.
Memorial donations in Lucille’s name can be made to the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation (rdrhfoundation.com). The family wishes to thank Dr. C. Holmes, for his continuing care over the years, as well as the compassionate and dedicated staff of RDRH.
