Peter Holmes Brown
1932 – 2026
We lost a great man. Because of him, the world is a whole lot smaller now.
Peter Brown is and was an incredible man who touched so many lives.
Peter was born the third of seven children to Maurice and Doris Brown in Camp Borden, Ontario. He enjoyed working at a sawmill on the British Columbia coast. He then decided to join the Canadian Air Force and became a fighter pilot. He LOVED flying, all kinds of aircraft for over two decades throughout Canda. He continued with the military as supervisor of the military supply depot at Namao.
After retiring from the military, he went to work for the Alberta Liquor Control Board also in warehousing. After fully retiring, he and Joyce left Edmonton for the Okanagan, where he would take up golf and play at one of the many courses in the Okanagan Valley.
Peter ultimately became a member at the Peachland Golf Club and quickly made friends and became an amazing golfer.
Peter was principled, honest, loving, strong, and was immensely respected for those traits.
Peter and Joyce lived a story book life in a house surrounded by orchards and only steps away from Okanagan Lake. He enjoyed having the entire family around, and had many wonderful memories of the family swimming in the lake, wet towels, potato chips, and egg salad sandwiches.
Peter was also an excellent carpenter and handyman who over the years built a garage, concrete driveway, fences, and countless home renovations in all of his homes.
His specialty was building Cedar Strip Canoes of which he built nine, they were truly works of art. His children are all recipients and are very proud of these special canoes.
Peter and Joyce eventually moved to their second home in the hills of Westbank, Kelowna. A beautiful place with incredible neighbours made it so very special.
He loved walking dogs, they could be his dogs or the neighbours, it did not matter, they were a huge part of his life. He always had a walking companion. A void was left in his heart six years ago, when the love of his life, his wife Joyce of over sixty years, passed away.
Peter recently moved to Innisfail, Alberta where he would be closer to his family to enjoy his last years with his children, grand children and great grandchildren.
Pete passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side at the age of 93 years. He will be missed. He is lovingly remembered by his son, Greg Brown, of Innisfail, his daughter, Berit (Pat) Carson of Innisfail, grandchildren, Kellen (Ashley) Hoff, Katherine Hoff and his great grandchildren, Vann Hoff and Avery Hoff. He will also be missed by his brother of Bill Brown, of Ontario, his four sisters, Doryce Nichols, Kathleen McIver Hanna, Carol (Alex) Gribben and Robin Brown. He was predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Doris as well as his brother Geoff Brown.
