Sarah Kathleen Elizabeth Miller (nee Barss) peacefully left for her heavenly home on December 8th, 2025 at the age of 106 years.
Born in Irma, Alberta, on August 20, 1919, to Layton and Mary Barss, Kathleen was raised on the farm and stayed in the region until 1967 when she moved to Red Deer. Prior to moving to Red Deer, she bore three children: Maurice, Esther and Ken.
Kathleen worked at Deer Home for many years, attending night school to obtain her Bookkeeping Certificate. She then went on to work for Thiels Insurance, obtaining her Insurance Agent license. After retirement she was able to mark some amazing adventures travelling around the world.
Kathleen was an active member of Gaetz Memorial United Church for 58 years. Singing in the choir for many years at church, Kathleen was also a member of the Red Deer Community Band where she played her clarinet.
Kathleen worked very hard all her life, from raising children, growing incredible gardens to feeding her family and supporting her church in many ways.
An amazing woman – in her lifetime Kathleen survived two worldwide pandemics (Spanish Flu and Covid), World War II, saw man land on the moon, and the evolution of party line telephones to smart phones.
Kathleen is survived by her children Maurice (Sandra), Esther, and Ken. Her legacy continues to grow with grandchildren Shelley Miller, Brent Miller (Kimberley), Wade Miller (Jen), Allyson Draude (Braden), Sophya Miller, Olivya Miller; great-grandchildren Blair Miller, Devan Miller, Shelby Demerais (Scott), Brittany Jackson, Mitchell Cameron, Raena Cameron, Nina Miller, Annaley Miller, Charlie Draude, Clara Draude, Julie Miller, Casey Miller and Ethan Miller and great-great-grandchildren Marek Miller, Oaklyn Miller, and Stetson Demerais.
A celebration of Kathleen’s long and amazing life will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Gaetz United Memorial Church, 4758 – Ross St., Red Deer AB at 2:00 pm. Live streaming of Kathleen’s celebration can be viewed on the Gaetz Memorial United Church YouTube channel.
