It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Jeannie Susan Crosby, age 86, on January 15, 2026, at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.
Jeannie will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband, Ken; her children, Gloria, Rick (Linda), Terry, Tammy, Ron(Karen), Glen, and Brenda; her 16 grandchildren; her extended family; and dear friends. Jeannie is predeceased by her parents, John C. and Alice Neeposh; brother, Simeon; and sister, Mary.
Jeannie was born on the Cree First Nation of Waswanipi in northern Quebec on July 20, 1939. She grew up deeply connected to her land and culture, and loved returning to her community to visit family and friends. Jeannie met her husband, Ken, in Senneterre, Quebec, in 1964. In husband Ken’s words about when they first met, “I noticed her eyes were full of light and appeared to be brighter when she smiled and laughed. She had a shy, peaceful way about her, but a profound strength.” They were married on March 24, 1966, and together they raised their seven children.
Jeannie was a joyful person who radiated positivity and laughter wherever she went. She was known throughout her life for her smile, hugs, and warmth toward everyone she met. Jeannie had a strong faith and love for Jesus. She would often be heard singing hymns throughout the day as she cared for the home. Hockey was Jeannie’s cherished sport, and she cheered enthusiastically for her beloved Montreal Canadiens. She had a love for life and could always be found joining in on whatever game or activity was happening.
A private gathering will be held with family and friends.
The family is sincerely grateful to the staff of the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for their kind care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society or the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, in Jeannie’s memory.
