Dorothy Volk (Bredo) was born on November 5, 1923, in Spy Hill, Saskatchewan, and passed away peacefully on Monday January 5, 2026, in Red Deer, Alberta, at the age of 102. Dorothy built much of her early life in Kamloops, British Columbia, where she raised her family and became well known in the community. While married to her first husband, Phil Volk, she owned and operated the Caribou Restaurant. Phil passed away early in her life, a loss that shaped her strength and independence. During these years, Dorothy worked extensively in the restaurant and hospitality industry, including many years at the Village Hotel. Later in life, Dorothy moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where she met and married her second husband, Walter Bredo. They shared many meaningful years together before his passing. Following Walter’s passing, Dorothy relocated to Red Deer, Alberta, to be closer to her family, where she spent her remaining years surrounded by their love and support. Dorothy was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Wayne Volk, and her daughter, Lynda (Don) Munro. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Brent (Dawn) Volk, Crystal (Ryan) Duncan, Aaron (Chrissy) Munro and Justin (Jenn) Ashley. Dorothy was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brothers Lloyd Phillips of St. Albert, Alberta, and Alex Phillips of Nanaimo, British Columbia. Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, Phil Volk, and her second husband, Walter Bredo; her parents, Thomas and Annie Phillips; and her siblings Fred Phillips, Ted Phillips, Donald Phillips, George Phillips, Lola McLean, and Vera Broten. Dorothy will be remembered for her strength, independence, work ethic, and the long life she lived with determination and resilience. In accordance with her wishes, no service will be held.
