The Red Deer Rebels returned to the win column on Saturday with a 3-2 victory over the Broncos in Swift Current.

The Broncos tied the game in the third period to send it to overtime, but Rebels forward Beckett Hamilton scored his third goal in two games to pick up the win.

Rebels netminder Matthew Kondro was solid in between the pipes with 22 saves on 24 shots, and Red Deer piled on the pressure, outshooting their opponents 40-24.

The Rebels opened the scoring with under five minutes to go in the opening period. In the offensive zone, Rebels defenceman Noah Chadi fired a shot from the point that was redirected past the goalie for his second goal of the season.

In the second period, Rebels defenceman Nate Yellowaga extended their lead 2-0 with 7:36 remaining.

He blasted a shot past the goalie with a one-timer from the top of the right circle off the feed from Cameron Kuzma.

The Broncos scored their first of the game with 3:05 left in the middle period, scored by Anthony Wilson, assisted by former Rebel Trae Wilke.

Swift Current then found the equalizer with a goal from Hudson Darby midway through the third period while on the power play.

The Broncos’ comeback effort sent the game to overtime; however, Hamilton ended it nearly four minutes into the extra frame with a breakaway goal.

With the victory, the Rebels remain in ninth place in the Eastern Conference with a 13-21-2-2 record.

Next up, they’ll head to Lethbridge on Wednesday for a matchup with the Hurricanes at 7 p.m. before returning home for a pair of games at the Centrium. The Rebels will face the Tri-City Americans on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a rematch with the Hurricanes on Saturday at 6 p.m.
