GAGNON, Raymond
1954 – 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Gagnon. Ray was born in Wainwright, Alberta on January 10, 1954 to Albert and Yvette Gagnon, and was the youngest of three surviving children. Ray was called home by God and met his mother, father and baby sister, Margaret in heaven on December 17, 2025.
Ray moved to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories in 1961 where he attended St. Patrick’s High School. He left Yellowknife for a short time after graduation to play for the Wainwright Bisons Junior Hockey team.
Returning to Yellowknife in the early 70’s, Ray began his career as a Safety Officer for the Government of the Northwest Territories. During his thirty-five years as a safety officer, Ray traveled the north working hard to ensure hundreds of companies, businesses and job sites were safe for workers and the public. Ray made friends wherever he went and touched the lives of many. He is known for his kindness, generosity and integrity. His sense of humor brought happiness and laughter to everyone he spoke to and every room he was in. Ray loved sports and was known as an accomplished player, coach and manager in Yellowknife Broomball, Fastball and Hockey Teams. Through sports, he formed lasting friendships and cherished memories.
Above all, Raymond valued family. Ray moved to Alberta after he retired and enjoyed his time as a devoted grandfather. Ray will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Stephanie Nicole (Yannick) and his grandson, Aiden; along with his former wife, Jeanne, his sister, Jeannette, his brother, Roland (Pauline) and many nieces, nephews and four goddaughters.
Ray was a devoted father and loving friend. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in shared stories, familiar laughter, and the memories that remain in our hearts. I love you dad.
