Allan Robert James “Hoss” Hammer passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre. Hoss was born on December 4, 1933, in Calgary, Alberta. On June 4, 1976, he married Ena Mensiena (Hoogstra) Hammer, in Red Deer, Alberta. He enjoyed a remarkable 55-year career in broadcasting, with his latest position of over 23 years being at CKGY 1170. A dedicated advocate for agriculture in Alberta, Hoss spent many years representing the sector he cared so deeply about. He loved announcing shows, covering sales, and connecting with the communities he served. Among his proudest achievements was being inducted into the Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame in 1991, an honor bestowed by his peers. Another cherished milestone was publicly professing his Faith in Red Deer. Hoss will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Ena Mensiena (Hoogstra) Hammer, along with numerous friends and relatives, including cousins in the U.S.A. and Scotland. He was predeceased by his sister Fern, his parents Floyd and Chrissie, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
