Snow, Freezing Rain, and Strong Winds Expected

Winter Storm Watch in place for Red Deer and surrounding area

Dec 8, 2025 | 10:17 AM

A Winter Storm Watch is in place for the city of Red Deer and surrounding areas.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), hazardous weather is expected Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Officials say a cold front will bring heavy rain showers or flurries late Monday evening, as well as strong northwest winds gusting to 90 km/h. This is expected to be followed by temperatures quickly dropping below zero in some areas, likely causing any wet surfaces to freeze.

Meteorologists say brief periods of freezing rain or blowing snow are also possible in parts of central Alberta Monday night, so icy surfaces may form quickly and be difficult to detect. High sided vehicles may also be blown around by the wind.
