CZUY, Elsie
1936 ~ 2025
It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mrs. Elsie Elizabeth Czuy on Friday, November 7, 2025, with her loving family at her side, after battling cancer. Born on May 29, 1936, Elsie lived a long, rich, and meaningful life defined by generosity, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. Elsie was known for her warm spirit, quick wit, and the quiet strength with which she faced life’s challenges. She valued hard work, kindness, and the importance of caring for others —lessons she passed down to everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. Her home was a place of welcome, where coffee was always on and stories were always shared. Elsie developed a lifelong love for sports. A passion she happily shared with everyone around her. Elsie loved curling and was an enthusiastic Toronto Blue Jays fan. Whether it was a close curling match or a Blue Jays baseball game, Elsie watched with excitement and devotion. Elsie’s love language was food, and she showed her care by making sure everyone around her was well fed. Her passion for cooking and nourishing others was evident throughout her years in the food industry — beginning with the grocery store she and Ralph opened, Ralph’s Red and White, and later through their restaurant called The Sandwich Patch (later known as Raphels) in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. After moving to Red Deer, her devotion to sharing good food never faded. No one ever left her home on an empty stomach; every visitor was treated to the warmth and comfort of her unforgettable home-cooked meals. She treasured time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy. Whether offering wisdom, encouragement, or challenging her to a game of Aces to Kings, Elsie made sure her family always felt supported and deeply loved. Elsie was a proud mother, a loyal friend and the heart of every gathering.
Elsie was predeceased by both her parents, George Sr. and Rose Pawliw; brothers, Carl, Fred, George, Eddie; and sisters, Carrie, Julia, Stella, Olga, Katie and Helen. Elsie is also predeceased by her loving husband, Ralph Czuy, in 2007 after fifty-one years of marriage; and their son, Daryl Czuy in 2023. Elsie leaves behind a brother, Myron Pawliw; two children, Brent Czuy, and Chris Morrison (Rick Morrison); daughter in-law Raylene Czuy; seven grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren. Elsie’s legacy lives on in the countless memories she created, the traditions she upheld, and the love she gave so freely. She will be remembered for her gentle heart, her humour, and the steady presence she provided throughout her long life. She leaves behind a family who will forever carry her memory in their hearts and strive to honour her by living with the same strength, compassion, and grace she exemplified.
In lieu of flowers, and to honour Elsie’s wish to not have a funeral service, the family asks that all who wish to participate make a donation to the Red Deer Hospice Society, at www.reddeerhospice.com, for the exceptional and compassionate care they provided Elsie and her family. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
