Mrs. Gloria Haddleton passed away peacefully in the early morning of November 9, 2025, at Sunset Manor in Innisfail, Alberta, at the age of 92. She was born on July 22, 1933, in Bracken, Saskatchewan, where her family farmed and ranched near the U.S. border. Times were tough, but Gloria always loved the prairies and often spoke about how beautiful the “prairie wool” looked to her.
In 1953, Gloria married the love of her life, Bill Haddleton. They made their home in Climax, Saskatchewan, where they raised two daughters, Connie and Beverly. Together, they worked hard to build a life while running a grain operation outside of Climax. Bill also drove the school bus, and together they cared for Climax School as custodians. Gloria was active in the community, a member of the United Church, and part of the Eastern Star. Summers were often spent camping in Cypress Hills or visiting relatives in British Columbia.
In 1997, Gloria and Bill moved to Bowden, Alberta, to be closer to family as Bill’s health declined. After his passing in 2004, Gloria remained in their Bowden home, finding strength and joy in time spent with her family including granddaughter Val, husband Logan, and great-grandsons Gunner and Axel. She loved listening to music, gardening, baking her famous buns and cabbage rolls, cheering for the Blue Jays, and delighting in the simple joys of life—whether it was playing a game of Yahtzee, utilizing her green thumb, or receiving a cuddle from a beloved cat. Of Finnish descent, Gloria embodied the word sisu—a deep inner strength, courage, and determination in the face of adversity. She lived her life and met its challenges with that same unyielding spirit. She was feisty, at times even stubborn, and had a great sense of humor.
Gloria was predeceased by her husband Bill, her parents, and her sister, Evelyn Sundet. She is survived by daughters Connie (Larry) Huelsman of Bowden and Beverly (Garth) Nerada of Medicine Hat; granddaughter Val (Logan) Dye along with great-grandsons Gunner and Axel Dye; brother Jack Huhtala of Saskatoon; sisters Helen Posti (Doug Halvorson) of Eckville, Millie (Jim) Posti of Red Deer, and Elaine Ferguson of Red Deer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
