In Loving Memory of Gordon Phillip Magnus
May 9, 1964 – November 10, 2025
It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our incredible Dad, Papa, Son and friend, Gord Magnus on November 10, 2025 at the Red Deer Hospice. At the age of 61, surrounded by his loved ones after a short courageous battle with cancer. Gordon faced his illness with quiet strength even in the hardest moments. Despite his battle he remained deeply connected to the people and his pets that he loved, finding comfort in the simple and meaningful moments he cherished the most.
Born in Banff and raised in Exshaw, Gordon lived a very adventurous childhood spent exploring the mountain side on skis with his big brother. Gord was the youngest of three children, born to loving parents, Alice and Werner Magnus.
He went on to become a red seal welder, owning his own company and being an excellent teacher of the trade to many. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and all around outdoorsman. You could almost always find him in the yard with the fire going, radio on and some sort of project on the go.
He was a true Jack-of-all-trades AND a master of all.
Gord was a very proud father to his three incredible kids who he passed his love of adventure to, Eric Magnus, Shannon (Seth) Magnus Ukranichuk and Aspyn Magnus, and an even prouder Papa to one grand daughter, Alice Ukranichuk.
He taught his kids many things from the simpler things like bike riding, how to care for the house and yard or cracking a joke to keep the room lighter to more special things like sharing his love for fishing, the outdoors as well as showing us the most special love for each other.
Gordon will forever be deeply missed and cherished by his mother, Alice Magnus, his children and grandchild as well as his sister, his nieces and nephew, extended family and many friends who will miss him deeply and continue to honour his memory.
He is predeceased by his brother and best friend, David Magnus as well as his father Werner.
Dads passing has left a void in our lives that will never fill. His light and love for his family will always be a warm highlight on those cold lonely days.
Don’t forget to stoke the fire, and have a drink on the way out.
