Irene Loretta Leach (née Andrew) passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Care Centre on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Rimbey, Alberta, and raised in the Gilby and Eckville area, Irene attended a one-room school (named after her grandfather, Wm. Andrew) and graduated from Eckville High School in 1956. She pursued a nursing career, graduating as an LPN in Calgary in 1959, and dedicated her life to caring for seniors across various nursing homes.
Throughout her life, Irene was actively involved in her community, supporting youth activities such as figure skating, CGIT, Cubs, Scouts, and hockey, as well as the Eckville Hospital Ball Team. She was also known for her love of crafts, creating cherished items for her grandchildren. A dedicated family historian, she preserved her family’s legacy through old photographs and documents.
Irene was a member of the Red Deer Ladies Auxiliary Branch 35 since 1985 and continued to serve her community until her retirement in 1994 due to health issues.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Ledena; grandchildren, Montana, Dayton, and Jayden; great-grandchildren, Jordynn, Jolene, and Emily; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Irene was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Bill and Albert; sister, Ev; son, Myles; granddaughter, Lindsay; and great-grandson, Dylan.
