SVEDERUS, Margaret ‘Fay’
1941 – 2025
Mrs. Margaret ‘Fay’ Svederus (nee Rowe) of Red Deer, Alberta entered into rest on Sunday, October 19, 2025 at the age of 84 years. Fay will be lovingly remembered by her son, Randy (Joan), grandchildren, Sara (Andy) and Matthew, great grandsons, Benjamin and Elliot; son Barry (Carla); grandchildren, Justin (Lindsey), Ryan (Sydney), and Bryce; daughter, Shannon (Wayne), grandchildren, Brittney (Jeremy), great grandchildren, Hannah, Jaxson; Alisha (Michael); great grandchildren, Ainsley, Ezra, Judah; brother, Raymond Rowe (Darlene); in-laws: Jerry and Mernie Alderson, Bill and Kay Svederus, and Keith and Jo-Ann Svederus; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Fay was predeceased by her husband, Edward; and parents, Robert and Mildred Rowe. Fay was born on April 14, 1941 in Medicine Hat and grew up in Redcliff, Alberta. After completing school, Fay moved to Red Deer and worked at Michener Centre where she met Ed Svederus who quickly became her confidant and lifelong companion. They were married on April 20, 1963, in Redcliff and settled in Blackfalds where they raised their family. Fay waited until her three children were in school before completing the Teacher’s Assistant Diploma at Red Deer College and began working for many years as an Educational Assistant both in Lacombe and Blackfalds. In her spare time, Fay loved to swim and made it part of her lifelong weekly routine. Countless adventures were had going camping, on canoe trips, and cross-country skiing with family and friends. Post-retirement found Fay, Ed, and their fifth wheel traveling to ball tournaments and making memories with family and friends. The trailer made long trips too, heading to Yuma for winters and even making a marquee trip across Canada. A twinkle in her eye and her beautiful smile shone when she reminisced about these times. Fay was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother (GiGi) who fiercely loved her family. She found joy in simplicity-gatherings around a campfire, handcrafting heartfelt gifts from her sewing room, and tending to her gardens. Her walls were adorned with family pictures, photographs, and great grandchildren’s art expressing what mattered to her most. Fay always had an affinity for ladybugs reflecting her colorful personality and wardrobe. She faced life head- on, never shying away from speaking her truth. Above all, she had a strong sense of self- knowing who she was, what she stood for, and what she wanted out of life. She will be deeply missed. A Celebration of Fay’s Life was held at CrossRoads Church Chapel, 38105 Range Road 275, Red Deer County, Alberta on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.. We kindly ask that guests wear colorful clothing to honor Fay’s request and to reflect her vibrant spirit and love of color.
