Mr. Owen James Owen of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away at the Red Deer Hospice on Saturday, October 11, 2025, with his loving wife, Linda, at his side. Owen was born on October 27, 1939, in Birmingham, England, to James and Florence Owen. Owen joined the British Royal Air Force in 1959, following in the footsteps of his father, uncles, and brother. During his twenty-one years in the RAF, he was deployed three times to the Middle East and completed a tour in Northern Ireland. Owen served thirteen years as an RAF fireman, followed by eight years in general duty. He served his country with honour and pride and was medically and honourably discharged from the RAF in 1980. Owen met and married Linda Mutch from Eston, Saskatchewan, in 1969. They were married in the United Kingdom while Linda was touring overseas. Owen and Linda were blessed with three children: William, Gordon, and Anya. The family resided in England until 1982, when they moved back to Eston. Owen worked several jobs there before relocating to Red Deer in 1991. He worked as a Security Guard and overnight stock person at Walmart. Owen was known for the positive relationships he built with his co-workers, customers, and everyone he encountered. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in both Eston and Red Deer. Owen loved gardening, woodworking, reading, doing puzzles, and travelling to visit his grandchildren in Prince George, British Columbia.
Owen is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of fifty-five years, Linda Owen (née Mutch); his son, William (Elizabeth) and his grandchildren Liam, Xavier, and Amália of Prince George; his son Gordon of Red Deer; and his daughter, Anya (Fred) of Red Deer; He is also remembered by his nieces and nephews in both England and Canada. Owen was predeceased by his parents, James and Florence Owen; his brother, Fred (Hazel); his sister, Edna (John); his nephew, Clive Owen; his parents-in-law, Walter and Olive Mutch; and his brother-in-law, Elmer Mutch.
A Celebration of Owen’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Alto-Reste Cemetery, 26575 AB-11, Red Deer County. Afterwards, all are welcome to join the family to continue sharing memories of Owen from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at JD’s Bar and Grill, 1-7444 50 Avenue, Red Deer.
